Our Religious School, Beth El Religious School or BERS, prides itself on its holistic teaching methods and innovative and exciting teachers, and strives to make learning as fun and experiential as possible. The school emphasizes building friendships, making learning fun and instilling a love of Judaism, or yidishkeit. Students at BERS learn in interactive ways, including baking, arts and crafts, singing, and outdoor activities.
Austin is home to many Israeli families who move to Central Texas for a variety of reasons, including work transfers, and many have children of Hebrew school age. In light of demand, the congregation has a designated class for native Hebrew speakers utilizing its Israeli teachers, whose experience ranges from teaching Hebrew at congregations and universities across the United States and beyond.
Congregation Beth El Religious School is also amongst a group of synagogues across the United States participating in the Chai Mitzvah Teen Mussar Program. This hands-on leadership program aims to provide social action opportunities; build self-esteem, Jewish identity and Jewish literacy; connect participants with other Jewish teens and with the community; and provide opportunities for positive personal expression.
In addition to our three different Hebrew school classes, individual tutoring is also available for those students in preparation for their B’nai Mitzvah.
Shabbat and holiday services frequently include special programs for the children led by Jewish educator Shereen Ben-Moshe.
